Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino York project will feature online and offline sports betting. The mid-state casino will be a mini counterpart of the Springetssbury Township. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said on October 3 that wagering will begin at the Hollywood Casino race track as well as online.
The road of regulatory acceptance is still long and tough as the project still needs a state licensed for its activities. The Penn National property will run approximately 500 slot machines and at least 20 table games initially. However, it is being designed to support at least 750 slot machines and 40 game tables.
Penn National will be spending close to $120 million on the Springettsbury Township Casino. The new gambling facility will be made of the York Galleria Mall and the formers Sears store retrofitted to suit gambling needs. An additional $52.6 million is being spent on Category 4 slots and game licensing fee. The casino will feature a grab-and-go eatery, casual dining restaurants, an entertainment lounge, and a sports bar as well.
Doug Harbach, the state Gaming Control Board Communicators Director, said that the company will have to seek approval for a sports book at a Category 4 casino in the near future. The next discussion on this matter has been scheduled for the morning of November 1. During the proposed public input hearing next month, the Board will consider requests from public officials, community groups as well as citizens about the casino.
Senior vice president of Public Affairs and Government Relations at Penn National Eric Schippers claimed that the company will explore sports betting down the road. Its current focus is on getting final approvals that could help in the casino’s development. The deadline for submission is October 30.
A second public hearing meeting could be held on a later, unspecified date in Harrisburg to accommodate the voices of different parties. The state board suggested that acceptance or denial of licenses will depend on the public opinion.
If the Hollywood Casino York receives all necessary approvals, it will become the first Category 4 casino of the state. It could create at least 75 construction jobs and up to 200 permanent local jobs. The casino is expected to stay under development for at least 12 to 18 months. The casino could be a ‘mini’ facility only in name. Its initial slot machine numbers inch closer towards other big casinos. For instance, The Valley Forge Casino and Resort has over 600 slot machines with 50 table games while the Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin (not to be confused with the LadyLucks online casino) has 600 slot machine and 29 table games.
